Bombay Vintage: Our favourite Neighbourhood boys (the Woodside Inn team) are opening an Indian restaurant. A few doors down from Woodsy Colaba, Bombay Vintage will serve food inspired by Bombay’s culinary heritage. Slated to open in mid January.

Dakshin Rasoi: Dosas will be dressed in their Sunday best at this 200 square feet QSR. Think mini basil dosa with corn & ratatouille; morel dosa with porcini and chestnut ragout; green garlic dosa with tofu, bok choy and peanuts. Opens on January 4.

Goyaa: Siddharth Somaiya, who previously owned The Bao Haus Co, and his partner Mariki Sayles, a New York mixologist who was part of the bartending team at Le Bernardin, collaborate on this 70-seater restaurant in Byculla East. Expect small plates filled with “wholesome food”; meats from around the world; breads, sauces and tofu made from scratch. Slated to launches mid-February.

Keiba: Finally, the mystery behind what will replace Olive at the Race Course has been solved. Japanese for ‘horse racing’, Keiba will focus on grills and live stations, and morph into a bar at night. As we speak, the kitchen is perfecting its recipes – Thai mud crab, sushi, dim sum, rock lobster soya butter garlic with squid ink, grilled miso New Zealand lamb chops, yakitori chicken and more. The bar promises a list of gins and whiskies that aren’t easily available in Mumbai, plus cocktails made with barley shochu, matcha tea liqueur, soya milk, pandan leaf-infused sake and more. Among the owners is Suren Joshi, partner at Pali Village Café and Su Casa, Ronak Rochlani and Neeti Goel of Nom Nom. Launches in two weeks.

Kitchen Garden: BKC takes a leaf from Bandra’s hippest organic café next week. Kitchen Garden opens at the Maker Maxity building, where many of the ingredients will come from their new organic farm. Read more about it here while you anticipate a buttery brioche containing Spanish-cooked ham, cheddar and eggs. Tentative opening date is next week.

Indigo Burger Project: The team behind Indigo Deli is launching a burger shack at CR2 Mall, Nariman Point, dishing out a variety of burgers and sandwiches from 11 am to 10 pm. Fun buns will include Spicy Burger with Kolhapuri spices, Crunchy Burger with cottage cheese, sun dried tomatoes and olives, Sloppy Joe Burger with Old Monk-infused chicken, Double Decker Sandwich and more. Slated to open on January 4. Note: A new Indigo Deli will open in Juhu’s Horizon Hotel on February 1.

The Looney, The Lover and The Poet: What was once Thalassa in Khar will be taken over by lovers and poets at the end of this month. Thyme scheme! The 3,000 square feet space will transition from breakfast to bar venue, serving keto friendly, vegan and gluten-free options. The fun bit: a curated draught menu in association with Moonshine Meadery, Bombay Duck Brewing & Great State Ale Works. Slated to launch in the third week of January.

Ministry of Crab: Yes, the rumour is true. Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Crab will in fact be scuttling into town! Gourmet Investments Pvt Ltd, the hospitality group behind PizzaExpress, is bringing the Crab to Mumbai. And while we heard whispers of a BKC location, details will only be divulged at the press conference tomorrow at The Runway Project, incidentally, also a new 2018 restaurant at High Street Phoenix. bpb Review out soon!

Neel: And there’s more expansion from the Indigo group, as their Indian restaurant, originally at the race course, occupies 2,000 square feet at Nariman Point. Ties in the ‘hood can look forward to Bento Box style thalis. Swati, watch your back. Slated to open on Januray 20.

Olive and Hello Guppy: Olive’s new lite brand Olive Café will launch in South Bombay at the end of 2018, as will the group’s Asian restaurant Hello Guppy. Detailed plans and locations are still hazy.

SodaBottleOpenerWala: It was only a matter of time before this “Bombay-Irani café” grabbed a spot at High Street Phoenix. They open at 8.30 am daily, serving eggs the way they should be eaten – with salli and soul. A fully stocked bar means that raspberry soda can be spiked with vodka. Duke’s Retreat? Opened on January 1 this year.

Treats Of The World: Imagine spooning Medovik, a Russian sour cream and sponge cake dessert, and Basbousa, an Egyptian sweet semolina cake on the same night. Slated to open at the end of January.
