What: 5 All Day, The Apollo Hotel, Lansdowne Road, behind Regal Cinema, Colaba, call 22873312.
Why: The debauched downstairs that used to be Oba is now a sunlit space featuring pale gray upholstery and wide windows, low ceilings and walls painted the colour of limes and passion fruit. Transformed by the guys behind 5 – The Restaurant, this cafe will offer “Modern European” cuisine including hickory smoked chicken burgers; black pepper fish and chips; leek, crispy cauliflower and goat cheese crepes; scrambled eggs with smoked bacon and more. We also hear rumours of a smoked Bloody Mary Soup (pretty please?)!
Most ingredients will be locally sourced – the fish gets flown in from Kolkata – and they’ll have two bars: one for liquor and a separate wine section. High 5!
When: Slated to open on September 27. Watch out for the bpb review!
What: Online store for sex toys, visit www.masalatoys.com or call (+91) 7760767727, start at Rs 2,500 for a vibrator, shipment received within 3 to 4 days.
Why: Because this Bangalore-based site is easy to navigate, well-stocked, non-sketchy and beats the hell out of trolling for a toy outside Akbarally’s. All of the gadgets on here (read: dildos, vibrators, sex dolls, even KY jelly) are apparently imported, from brands such as Durex and Cyberskin – in fact, they’re receiving a new Japanese shipment today. Flesh off the boat!
When: You want to know the (dil)dos and don’ts.
What: New batter-filled cupcakes from Deliciae, Union Park, Khar (W) and Haiko Place, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, call 9029023000 or visit www.deliciaecakes.com, Rs 110 per piece.
Why: Betty bought a ball of batter and to make the ball of batter better she filled it into the centres of yum, oozy cupcakes. Tongue twister indeed! bpb tried and loved Tiramisu and blueberry cheesecake flavours, but they also come in choco-cherry and Ferrero.
When: You want your goods with batter-ies included.
What: Custom-made swimwear from Mezzaluna, call 26469054 or view the Facebook page here, start at Rs 1,500.
Why: Wave goodbye to cloudy skies with a sunny new bathing suit custom-made by Bandra’s tankini tailors Ajay and Kalpana. Here’s how it works: take them a trendy design (we suggest you bypass their readymade pieces), choose from over 108 printed Lycra fabrics and let them put built-in tummy tucks if so needed. They can even do wet suits, a 30 grand Swarovski two-piece and an express swimsuit in under three hours.
When: You need a new coast office.
What: ArtLikeThis design show at the Diesel store basement, Western Wind Building, Juhu Tara Road, furniture starts at Rs 20,000.
Why: Aradhana Nagpal from Dhoop and Ishitta Arun Of D Se Dijhaeen use bits and pieces from motors, cycles and kitchens to make furniture (see bike chair and milk can stool) and light fixtures under the label D Tour. These along with cool Naga beds and other North Eastern handicrafts will be available at the week-long exhibit which previews tomorrow. bpb will be at the crafter-party for a bigger review!
When: Skilling it from September 23 to 29.
