With this rrring, I thee bed: Buy the fun retro alarm clocks, but ignore the Bangkok-ish clothes at Fungus.

Fungus. Will it ever grow on you?

It wants to, this new shoebox Bandra store that sells Bangkok-ish clothes we’ve seen so many times before. We can’t and we won’t - let it grow on us, that is - we resolved as we made our way to the newest Waterfield Road tenant, eviction notice in hand, hanging on to the remote hope that it may have something to do with the cool Fungus Designs we discovered online some months ago.

Mouldy Peaches

We got there to find that this Fungus has nothing to do with the good kind. So ubiquitous in Bandra are the clothes they stock that we won’t even go into details about the lycra tops, off-shoulder dresses and slogan T-shirts for men.

But look closely enough and you could break the mould in the ground floor space. This little section stocks random bric a brac, including pretty, old-school alarm clocks with silver twin bells and retro face patterns (Rs 399). With this rrrrring, I thee bed! Also see smile-inducing luggage tags that threaten with “Don’t touch me bitch”, “Back off” and “Don’t make me chase you” (Rs 199) written across them. Talk about travel insurance!

High Strung

The jewellery section here isn’t pretty, but amid the retagged Colaba Causeway baubleswe did find a golden-bronze owl (Rs 499) necklace, strikingly similar to the Ritika Sachdeva version we picked up at Ogaan for Rs 1,500 Who feels like an uloo now? For sharper cords, look up at the ceiling, strung with lines of colourful thread-wrapped lights and pretty white paper lamps (Rs 499).  Ignore entirely the made-in-China corner selling Super Mario key rings and Shin Chan headphones that don’t look like they’ll make it through a week.

Last but not Yeast

So it turns out, weekend browsing at Fungus was not a total waste of time. We left with an alarm clock and a fun reminder – overheard two staff girls ask permission to leave early for Queer Ink’s book reading at the Candies Bazaar. Suddenly, we knew what to do with that odd after coffee-before-dinner 7 to 8 pm slot on Saturday. Well read!

Getting there: Fungus, shop no 142/9, 29th Road, lane opposite Chemistry on Waterfield Road, Bandra (W), call 9833617767, Rs 399 for a retro alarm clock.

That's known that cash makes us free. But how to act when someone has no cash? The one way only is to receive the home loans and just financial loan.

WOW..Someone sure looks like they're on some drug induced power trip! Shouldn't reviews be written by...oh let's say ACTUAL professionals rather than, what seems to be a sorry attempt from a Simon Cowell wannabe?

Small tip to the above wannabe critic, when you went into the store..instead of creatively trying to twist everything FUNGUS is about AND walking out with an alarm clock, you should've chosen to walk out taking with you some class, style, and a hip vibe which oozes from the stores' design, presentation, the clothes and everything there.
Oh and by the way...it's "ALARM" not "ALARAM"...and you have the audacity to call the store a shoe box when that's clearly where you hail from.

I honestly don't mean to be rude here and I'm sorry if it comes across that way. Just stating facts actually.

Whenever I visit the store I always find something I like and the staff there are very warm and helpful. Maybe you didn't like anything Ms. Critic coz you have to go back to the drawing board and work yourself out first before you go out into the world looking for style that could accommodate someone as awkward as you.

Fungus is truly something different, unique, and fresh. It's well worth the prices and you need personality to bring out the life in the stuff you'll find there. So AGAIN I suggest the above critic to not bother going back until you get a personality..or maybe just until you finish your therapy. Coffee anyone?

“Don't criticize something you know nothing about". So ,please stop saying crap about Fungus. Its a good store and we Love it. With these review, Fungus will not loose anything , so who ever wrote this review please do something constructive.

The store is definitely different or else Mid day wouldnt have wasted their time and precious writing talent on the store. This definitely seems to be a personal attack more than a professional review. Now whats this about queer ink thingy?????

I think wise people would know what fungus is all about......

I have always gotten something nice from there and fungus is definately growing....ITS UR OPINION AND ALL but i guess u just dun have the taste......

Yeast interested? I've been to the store and the review is just the opposite. They've got some of the fabulous stuff. I can't speak for the reviewer but I have been pretty much interested in their stuff. Love the store!

Fungus is actually a very popular store so they must be doing something right!
I agree with Vishy that one does not find the kindve stuff they sell.
Although I respect your right to an opinion i think u've only gone with an eye to trash it down.
I suggest visiting it again with a fresh perspective and a want to know why that store is so popular.

I have a tshirt from Fungus that says" I LIKE TO FART ON MY FIRST DATE". But after reading this I definitely would say " I'D LIKE TO FART ON THIS BLOG"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH///......... LMAO
Thursday, 11 November 2010 20:46
I have been to the store a number of times and everytime I go there I find something new and its definitely affordable. I have never found the same stuff on the streets or colaba. So obviously who ever has written this blog had either gone there with their eyes shut or maybe doesnt have the taste for fashion and should find a new job!!!

Go Fungus....and TO Whoever..... Good luck with ur new job :))
