Hics-ville: New Wasted Fish Store

Family Guy

Everyone has one – that drunk uncle who has one too many at the family dinner and talks to you like you're stone deaf. It's time to hide your alcohol-loving, mildly-annoying extended family in a closet for Wasted Fish opens in Bandra today, a store whose paraphernalia encourages inebriation and isn’t responsible for the behaviour that comes with. Here you’ll find everything your bar (and uncle) need to last through the season – glassware, booze accessories, ashtrays and drinking games imported from Ireland, Germany and beyond. How much should you buy? That’s all relative(s).

The Fins Behind The Sins

Wasted Fish was started this summer as a home delivery-only service by Chandni Shahani and Imran Rizvi, for whom getting high out of boring glasses was a big downer. That’s when the two boozy bums decided to sober up, “only momentarily”, to import all kinds of glorious glasses – tilted whisky tumblers, frosted wine goblets, steel champagne flutes and a bunch of long-stemmed shot glasses that look like tulips.

Stocks and Ponds

They’ve now moved into a 500 square feet store, not coincidentally next to Toto’s Garage Pub, where besides kooky sippers, you will see cool drinking board games - Full Tight Bingo, Ship Wrecked, Shooters & Ladders –neatly stacked up against black and white walls. There are also ironic ashtrays made to look like lungs, leopard print cocktail shakers, mini USB fridges and alcohol dispensers shaped like fire extinguishers and slot machines. While owner Chandni’s favourites at the store are from the new shipment – ceramic martini and glass blown, hand painted wine glasses – we suggest you ask to see these ultra cool upside down beer ones.

They open bright and early today at 11 am – hey that’s pretty early for a hungover fish – so go stock up for the party season. And if we see your uncle wandering the streets around here, we’ll be sure to send him home.

Getting there: Wasted Fish, shop number 7, ground floor, 30th Road, opposite H20, Pali Naka, Bandra (W), call 9833406311 or view the Facebook group here, start at Rs 600.
