Re: Dressing Better At Work

It has come to our attention in the last few months that you have not been as sharply turned out at work as you could be. First, you blamed the anti-blazer Mumbai weather, then the lack of good work wear at stores, and finally, the rising price of jackets.

While all of that might be true, we would like to point out that there is a new three-storey store on Linking Road called Bombay High which stocks reasonably priced office wear along with some designs that are just downright tacky. You can coat us on that.

It would do men and women well to skip the first floor where a mix of Cotton-World-ish shirts, casual tees and mediocre jeans reside. Stocked in the basement are geometric and checked office dresses in attractive shapes and cuts (start at Rs 1,500). Be cautioned however that each has multiple clones hanging alongside. A classic case of mass management!

On level one, bpb was pleased with creamy linen dinner jackets for men (Rs 6,000), much more preferable than the formal blazers. Also available are waistcoats, ties and trousers. Women, skip the frumpy full sleeved jackets and test if the half-sleeved version with bow collar (Rs 4,299), suits you. Dark grey wool blend pants (Rs 1,500) and pencil skirts (Rs 1,200) also fit well.

You should also know that Mango next door is on 70% off until next week (see picture), slashing rates on tweed jackets with tan leather detailing (and super cute matching shorts) to Rs 2,500, waistcoats to Rs 1,500 (half the price of those at Bombay High) and stocking other discounted work wear. But be warned, Bombay High comes with peace, quiet and a multitude of staffers, while crazy shoppers over at the Mango sale create quite a jacket over big discounts. Finally, please also refer to last week’s memo about  bespoke corporate wear).

Take whichever route you like, but we’re expecting you at work tomorrow at 9 am, (looking) sharp.

Getting there: Bombay High, next to Mango, opposite Khar telephone exchange, Khar (W), call 26486865, Rs 1,500 for an office dress.
