Barney Stinson would be excited. Suit up, he’d say, for there’s a new tailor in town. Opened just two days ago, Dubai-based Made 2 Measure is now in Mumbai offering bespoke suits and tailoring services for men. And just in time to capitalise on the wedding rush too.

Sew Me!

Depending on what fabric you pick out – they stock bales from luxury labels like Ermenegildo Zegna, Scabal, Valentino, Cerruti – getting a suit tailored can cost anywhere between fifteen thousand rupees to one lakh at Made 2 Measure. If you feel lost at first, it’s only because you haven’t been tended to by store assistant Sunil yet. Give him your budget and he’ll direct you to the right label, quickly volunteering information about thread count and origin, complete with sing-song Italian pronunciations.

Take your time feeling samples, flipping through catalogues and chewing on mouthfuls of Italian words. If you still can’t pick a style, ask managing partner Kamlesh Ramchandani who’s usually at the store; he recommends the simple, elegant one-button suit this season. Your final decision and measurements will then pass through the hands of their “experienced” 15-strong tailoring team, who will turn it into a suit within two to three weeks. “Maybe even one, but only after the party rush,” says Kamlesh. Also on the shelves is an unimpressive in-house collection of shoes, bags with MIIM logos, and cuff links that are way too colourful.

Pyjama Party

Made 2 Measure also stocks a few Indian pieces: we like the rack of interesting cotton and silk kurta pyjamas with self prints and light embroidery from designer Krishna Mehta (start at Rs 11,200). If you like your celebrations noisier, go over to the rack of decked out sherwanis by Delhi-based designer Gaurav Chhabra (start at Rs 20,000). Both can be made to size and colour.

Season 1

We’re uncertain of how the finished product will turn out, but a friend placed an order for a sharp Tessilstrona today. So kids, could this crafty seamster be your masterji? We’ll find out only at the end of this wedding season.
