Graphic visuals, hardcore homes & decoupage boxes on design consultant Vineeta Nair's blog.

Nothing Amateur About This

The content on Artnlight can best be characterised as design porn. Graphic visuals, hardcore homes, spanking new products and serious eye candy populate this blog, started up by ex-advertising art director Vineeta Nair. Now an independent design consultant with an infant décor business, Vineeta creates the coolest decoupage home accessories and blogs about the ideation behind them, her muses, the creative process, days when she procrastinates and finally, the end product that you can buy. Was it good for you?

 Boxing Match

Vineeta thinks fondly of the first decoupage box she created in June last year. A vintage style sepia toned piece called Hair Stories, she pasted it with old-school scissors, backs of heads and a poem her mum used to recite when she was a kid: Once when we were sitting around the family group, my father’s awful whiskers got tangled in the soup.

Today, the Hair Stories box is one of the most popular designs in her collection, which has expanded to include cool wooden containers inspired by Jaipur, jeweled ornaments and Indian motifs. Especially worthy of your storage is the black Misfits box, which is a tribute to “the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers.” A little high school maybe, but fun nonetheless. Also, the inside of these containers can be customised depending on your needs. For instance, Vineeta recently designed a pen box for her artist friend who needed a place for his prized nibs.

Tray a While

While the boxes pack in a big punch, ArtnLight also offers a line of decoupage trays with peacock feathers and lotuses, which we found less appealing.

Vineeta is still in the process of formalising her business (she’s already retailing at stores like Bliss and Loose Ends), but for now, the design label is named after her blog. “It is this space that helped evolve my design sensibilities and spurred on my range of home accessories. I think I’m going to stick with the identity,” she says.  More power to her b-spot, we say!
