Give Em The Old Razzle Dazzle
You can tell from its door knob - a latticed gold swirl adorned with gem stones - what kind of store Flaunt is going to be. Push to open and you’ll find Indian wear laden with pearls and brooches, strips of gota and clusters of diamantes pieced together by multiple designers. But is this sparkly cavern worth raiding? A few klepto swipes maybe, but not an Ali Baba-scale plunder.
Mood Rings
Some of the designers who retail at Flaunt include Upjas Kumaya who’s at Aza too, Ritu Berry’s kin Tanya Berry and Sakshi Malhotra whose embroidery also creeps up the shelves at Mogra. Now we’ve never been the type to burden our shopping carts with uber-heavy Indian wear, but if that’s your style, you’ll definitely find something here. There’s a rack of ready-to-slip-on net saris with pleats and pallu pre-done (start at Rs 8,000); blindingly blinged out lehengas; and a mixed bag of salwar kameezes whose moods range from angry to calm.
The calm ones include blue set with white beadwork (Rs 8,500); luxuriously simple silk kurtas by Tanya Berry (Rs 3,000); forest green with minimal gold work and pink leheriya pieces with gota flowers (Rs 3,500), both by Ambara. And then of course, there are those now-trendy screen printed kameezes embellished with stones and embroidery. We were assured that another shipment of similar temperament would be arriving next week. Besides apparel, Flaunt also has a range of jewellery by Tesoro and Shillpa Puri – silver circle danglers for Rs 750 are a steal – footwear and box clutches, designed with the same sensibility.
Flash Dance
We recommend that you don‘t make an event out of Flaunt, but include it in your pre-Diwali shopping route. You may just find yummy green silk something that doubles up as kurta and dress. And, it probably won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
Getting there: Flaunt, shop no 5, Hemkund 2 Housing Society, Waterfield Road, next to Moti Mahal, Bandra (W), call 26402333, Rs 3,000 for a silk kurta.
