Ready-to-Eat Doggy Bags for Travellers
Thursday, 31 May 2012 18:45

What: Doggy bags for your international travel by Heat 2 Eat, call 9820865453 /9820579350, view the Facebook page here, pick up from Juhu, Rs 300 for a kilo pack of ready-to-eat poha.

Why: If you’re too cool to pack theplas for your vacation, outsource the job to mother-daughter duo Rita and Pankti, who put them in vacuum sealed bags. They also do their own ready-to-eat doggy bags for travellers – masala khichdi, upma, poha, missal, Gujarati dal – that can be cooked in the microwave in two minutes after adding water. Unlike the ones available in the supermarket, these they claim, have no added preservatives or colour.

When: You want to say aloha to poha.

Let us not forget that the whole marketing strategy is based on selling 'convenience' here. But the thing is that, even if someone travels to another university (assuming its within India) they will still be at a walking distance from an eatery which serves what Heat2eat offers, so the whole point of the customer having to pay for the dehydration, preservatives, storage, packaging, transportation makes it costlier than the SAME PRODUCT which is available locally there. Lets not compare apples with oranges. If you plan to compare the price of an overpriced poha with a burger, then it will obviously seem less, but if you compare the price of that poha with the local poha available there and evaluate the 'price-tag VS local availability/necessity' graph then it turns out to be a pretty expensive product..

Plus let us be practical here and realize that the target audience (students/bachelors/basically people without access to proper homecooked meals) are not going to appreciate the extra hassles of keeping a stove/gas just to boil dehydrated food, the efforts involved are almost equivalent to cooking the food from scratch, plus an overpriced one at that. Cooking poha from scratch and boiling dehydrated poha, is almost the same in all factors other than the price factor..
