Not one for package tours? We found a new Mumbai service that will ensure your parcel doesn’t travel all over the city before getting where it’s supposed to.

This is Bombay Despatch, a same-day pick-up and delivery courier service where employees are polite, messengers use cycles and the founder claims to understand your urgency.

Launched by Rajiv Omkar, Bombay Despatch gets urgent documents and parcels picked up from your home or office and delivered on the same day at a flat rate of Rs 150. They operate between 9 am and 10 pm every day, and the latest that you can call for a pick-up is 7 pm. The good things is that your documents get delivered by bike, so not only is it quicker but greener too. With six cycles currently in operation, the cyclist (in a Bombay Despatch t-shirt) closest to your address will be sent to get your parcel picked up.

bpb called some local courier companies to see how their services compared to this. We found that most of them do not offer same day pick-up and delivery, except Vichare, who offers this service only if you call them before 11 am for which charges start at Rs 50. There’s also My Peon that can help you get your packaged delivered on the same day, but at Rs 200 plus local travel. So in terms of both convenience and cost, Bombay Despatch scores over the rest.

So why don’t you call them. That gift you have all wrapped up for us isn’t going to deliver itself.
