“Initiate cloning process now.”
We wonder how many more times this sentence will be uttered in the city in relation to yogurt. The last time someone said it, FYI (Churchgate) was born. Now, there’s Yogos, a new yogurt and cupcake specialty store located at the end of the busy Lokhandwala shopping street.
Along Came Po-lly
Inside the café you’ll find that the cloning process was indeed successful, as you browse flavours in a bubblegum pink coloured room with candy striped walls and a dessert-loving Panda for a mascot. The place seats about eight, and feeds many more with base yogurts in four flavours - original, chocolate, strawberry and mango - with the usual fruit and sprinkle topping station.
Or you can try the Yogos Recommends versions like Fruit Poppers (vanilla muffin with peach mango yogurt), Strawberry Delight (strawberry yogurt with marshmallows, on a vanilla muffin base) and Dark Sensation (brownie beads mixed with plain/chocolate yogurt, chocolate shavings and cherry jam). Himbos who work out in the neighbourhood, can get yogurt smoothies like The Hulk made with banana peanut butter and granola. However, the cupcakes and smoothies weren't available when we visited the cafe.
So we settled for two yogurts that the café hopes will be its bestsellers-- blueberry cheesecake yogurt with baked crumbs and blueberry jam (Rs 140 for a regular cup) and simple parfait with our choice of flavoured yogurt (Rs 120, regular cup). We loved the fact that the thick, non-clumped cheesecake yogurt tasted natural, minus the powdery aftertaste. The parfait, which is really just yogurt topped with cut kiwi, berries and watermelon, proved that Yogos has its basics right.
While we had no major complaints with Yogos, we left feeling an urgent need for more imaginative dessert places in Bombay. So you have a trust fund and real estate? Email bpb and we’ll tell you how not to turn into a yogurt shop. We might even beg.
Getting there: Unit#07, Greenfields Society, Lokhandwala Market, near HDFC Bank, opposite Hang Out Cakes, Lokhandwala, Andheri (W), visit the Facebook page here, Rs 140 for a regular cup of blueberry cheesecake yogurt.
bpb reviews anonymously and pays for our own meals.
