South of The Border, West of the Bun
Taco Fresco, we've gotta admit, is one tough cookie. After much hype, it opened to terrible reviews in Bandra last year; caved under the pressure of Sancho's on the same block and shut down; sprung up as a delivery-only service in Khar; and is now catering the food at The Terrace, the open-aired bar at Chowpatty, Marine Drive, which too has been struggling since its launch a couple of months ago. United, will these two stand?
Early spottings of the Taco Fresco banner (they crossed over the Sea Link only eight days ago) have caused much excitement in South Bombay, which is almost completely deprived of Mexican cuisine. Our investigation revealed that The Terrace will serve the entire menu offered at Taco Fresco's Khar outlet, including burritos, fajitas and quesadillas and (lo and behold!) guacamole.
A No Rainer
The incessant monsoon is playing a bit of a damper in this happy union however, since The Terrace is an open bar. Nor has the restaurant started a delivery service yet (they plan to, in the next couple of weeks). But they are doing take out, packing salsa and sour cream into neat little boxes that travel well and taste almost as good when you open them up at home. The food too, we are happy to report, has improved, with Taco Fresco making room for Indian ingredients and palates.
So do you solemnly swear to call upon The Terrace/Taco Fresco union the next time you're craving Mexican for lunch? I do.
