What:
Starbucks opens in Mumbai, Elphinstone Building, Horniman Circle, next to
Croma, Rs 95 for a short cappuccino, Rs 125 for a short cafe mocha, Rs 140 for
a chicken panini.
Why: Macchiato and mirror work
runners, hot chocolate and haathi-shaped tables at Starbucks’ first Mumbai
outpost, which looks like a split-level cross between LPQ and Cottage
Industries. We can’t say we love the clichéd Indian touches – others include
photographs of taxis and ornate wall carvings – that we spotted at a sneak peek
yesterday, but the good news is that the coffee is spot on (we tried the
caramel Macchiato, cafe mocha and Americano) and cheaper than we expected. In
addition to muffins and butter croissants from the international menu, there’s
a bunch of Indianised snacks like the murg tikka panini, elaichi mava croissant
and chatpata wrap. Get the yum and flaky Konkan mutton twist, but avoid the
average chocolate chilli éclair. Full review out soon!
When: Brews Almighty opens
today, October 19.
