Sneak Peek: Love Sugar Dough

Waiting for Go-Dough

First we saw a candy-coloured sign board that said ‘Love Sugar Dough’ and wondered when the shutters would go up. Next, we scored a number, made a call and waited again. Then, there was an extended launch date, followed by some more waiting. After over a month of doing would Samuel Beckett would advocate, we finally found what we were waiting for - Go-dough!

A new snackery / bakery in Khar, Love Sugar Dough opened with a private tasting last evening, and bpb was there to judge whether it had finally arrived.

Hang Around a Little Longer

We love what LSD’s done with the small space – trippy zebra and textured pink walls, lime green mezzanine seating and art work featuring Moby Dick. Tamer seemed the interiors of the snack showcase, where limited and regular bread tasting treats were laid out. Selling baked goods, dessert and a few mains sent in from a central kitchen, LSD follows the same model as Candies, an institutional Bandra eatery just a few minutes away.
We started with the toasties, bruschetta-style bread laid out with sundried tomatoes, cheese and chicken. A fun evening snack! We can’t say the same about mini Panini-like savouries though, which came with a stuffing that tasted of paneer bhurji and seemed like something our cook could have rustled up at home. Not worth the buy. The croissants at this bakery counter are what really take the cake: warm, soft and flaky with cheese or chilli chicken centers.

At the end came fat squares of brownie: gooey and not too sweet, just the way we like them.

Can’t Wait!

We had no major complaints with the food, but were disappointed at the lack of innovation, until owner Sheeba Hasan rattled off the rest of the menu: Ferrero Rocher croissants, mushroom and cheese puffs, empanada wraps, tiramisu sandwiches...expected in this week. We suggest they stock up on yum condiments for those who aren’t taking their parcel to go. There’ll also be Biryani (we’re with you on how random that is) because it’s a Hasan family specialty. The dessert selection will feature abovementioned brownies, cheesecake and much to the store next door Butterfly’s dismay, cupcakes.

Say, that Ferrero Rocher croissant sounds pretty good. It will however, only be available on Thursday when LSD opens its doors to the public, we were told. Ah, there’s that exquisite wait again.

Getting there: Ground floor, Bajaj Arcade, Union Park, Khar (W), slated to open Thursday, July 14.
