The Ninja Returns

Educated  at  Le Cordon Bleu, Paris,  Shilarna Vaz is a culinary samurai of many talents - she has set up one of Goa's prettiest restaurants, hosts a TV show (Firangi Tadka) and now is back in Mumbai to revive her dial-a-sushi business, where she delivers fresh rolls of Japanese tuna and smoked salmon, mango mint and pickled plums, asparagus and avocado all over town. Drum roll, please!

Ship-Shape

We Scouters especially love Shilarna's veggie California rolls and salmon sushi, and promise to add her new, uber-healthy offerings to our diet charts: these include vegan sushi made with organic brown rice, asparagus and avocados (no mayonnaise), also Imran Khan Body Builder Rolls - brown rice, double the fish and veggies - for when we're feeling particularly macho.

House Rolls

Along with the individual rolls and sushi platters she currently offers (vegetarian and non-veg), Shilarna is also kicking off a sushi party service at the end of this month, for which she'll cater not only sushi but also fun additions like miso soup and chicken teriyaki.

Perfect for when you're fishing for compliments!

Getting there: Call Shilarna Vaz at 9820036525 or visit the Facebook group here, Rs 250 for a California roll, free home delivery in Bandra and Andheri, minimum order of 10 rolls for South Bombay delivery, advance notice required.

When mz.Singh called me the first time and inquied IN DETAIL about "when our fish gets flown in" (from where? japan? i would be charging you in dollars then for sure), i answered her professionally and politely. The next time she called, we went through the whole thing again, about 'how she is from San Francisco and really knows her sushi' and how we defrost our fish etc etc. I answer these questions all the time and I'm more than happy to, as I am as particular about the quality of our sushi. What i dont like, is the attitude and condescending tone that it was asked with. Not only armed with a superiority complex (why exactly have you moved to India if you distrust everything about it) and extremely rude and obnoxious. I have a right to have an opinion and not give my sushi to people I instinctively think are being rude. If you check with any of our 600 members on Facebook, they will tell you the sushi is great and I am always more than polite. I guess some people just bring it out in me. Stick to wasabi Mz.Singh. I'm sure Morimoto will be more than happy to answer your questions about 'how Indians serve avocado"

Please DO NOT use NINJA Sushi- they are EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. I called to place an order with the owner, Shilarna, and she hung up on me because I asked her if the avocado was fresh and soft and not unripe/hard as I had experienced with other sushi delivery services. I suppose that means NO.

As sushi is relatively new to the Indian market, I have been disappointed several times. So now I have learned to ask a few questions before I order as I am from SanFrancisco and I am an avid sushi fan.

I guess I scared Ms. Vaze as she realized that I really KNOW my sushi and her sushi must not be up to the mark. Better to hang-up on the potential customer than to deal with the fallout of serving an inferior product.

Ms. Vaze, your Le cordon blue credentials sound impressive, but I am sure the esteemed institution would be dismayed at your behaviour.
