bpb has some pearls of wisdom this Wednesday and it would do you good to eat them. Round, smooth, glistening and really quite precious - they’re made of dark chocolate - these ‘pearls’ are sold by the cup at Choko la (get me chocolate in Hindi?), a new cocoa boutique at Phoenix Market City.
So Delhi-cate!
After opening stores at the Mumbai domestic and international airports, Delhi-based Choko la founder Vasudha Munjal (she comes from the family behind Hero Honda and was educated at Le Cordon Bleu) finally sneaks one past the border and into our fair city. And if you'd rather not trek to Kurla for cocoa, they home deliver too, on a minimum order of Rs 1,000.
With artisan bars, orange candy and mendiants glistening in tin foil and amber wrappers, the tiny Choko la store appears like a single glowing ember. Their claim that the products here are made using couveture chocolate from Europe is evident in the yum, rich taste. The slick packaging also at once sets them apart from other mass-produced confectioners or less professional home retailers.
Celebrate Ganache Chaturthi
Besides the abovementioned chocolate pearls, bpb also tried and loved the buttons - pebble-shaped white chocolate flavoured with strawberry, lemon or orange and sold in coffee-cup like packs - that are fun to distribute at an office Christmas party. Also see tuilles (French choco-nut tiles), honey-filled discs and pretty star anise truffles.
Fuss-free cocoa lovers can get the dark / plain chocolate slabs. Or how about some nuts? No thanks, we already have the family jewels. Those pearls, remember?
PS: There's an adorable bunch of Christmas lollipops on their Facebook page that's expected to arrive at the store next week.
Getting there: Choko la, unit no. UG-52, Market City Kurla, upper ground , LBS Marg, Kurla (W), call 8898271113 or visit www.chokola.in, start Rs 310 for a box of chocolate pearls, home delivery for a minimum order of Rs 1,000.
