Eggsunday

It's hard to trick a Tuesday afternoon into thinking it's Sunday, but you can come close at this Oshiwara eatery.

Yolk Sheer

It’s hard to trick a Tuesday afternoon into thinking that it’s Sunday, but you can come close at Eggsunday. With a bright yellow sign board, cheery sun-lit interiors and nothing but eggs on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, everyday at this new Oshiwara cafe feels like a holiday.

Mad Scramble

Egg heads will be spoilt for choice at this week-old eatery – the first branch hatched at the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in November last year -  where andas are not just poached, boiled, fried and scrambled, but also creatively layered between flaky rotis and rolled up in tortillas. As soon as we wrapped our stomachs around the fact that we were having breakfast for lunch on a work day, we were ready to order.

First up, the Signature Bombellete, a perfectly nice omelette cooked with onion, coriander and pepper but not worthy of its sexy name. And the fried egg tortillas, overwhelmingly cheesy, are clearly not for the cholesterol cautious - even the distinct flavour of jalapeno and spring onion couldn’t catch a break.

If you ask us, the Cheesy Baida Roti – a delicious and surprisingly light laccha paratha layered with eggs, creamy cheese and peppered red onions is Eggsunday’s hottest dish. Those who walk the straight and narrow should stick to the eggs Benedict -  perfect in taste and texture, but ruined by accompaniments (hash browns and baked beans) that are loaded with preservatives. Other options include Akhuri, Anda Biryani, and Desi Anda Bhurji.

Trying Tuesday

We’d had (more than) our fill of eggs, but what’s a Sunday without a pot of strong black coffee?  Unfortunately, we were informed that hot beverages and mocktails, though on the menu, weren’t being served. And fresh juices, a breakfast essential, don’t even feature in the line-up.

And just like that, it felt like a Tuesday again. Weak day!

Getting there: Eggsunday, shop number 6, Mira Tower, opposite Mega Mall, Oshiwara, Andheri (W), call 26319228 or visit www.eggsunday.com, Rs 650 for a meal for two.

Check out Egg Factory in B'lore. Similar concept, but has been around for longer. Plus, they have lovely smoothie/drink combinations.
