The Tale of the Travelling Truffles

Before Belgium-based patisserie Debailleul sets up shop at Prabhadevi, they want to make sure their truffles are well-travelled. Having already been to Hong Kong, Moscow, Kyoto, the chocolates are now familiarising themselves with our fair city via a home delivery service, one that will precede the store launch next month.

Currently carting over 23 varieties of chocolate bonbons (mountain honey, raspberry pate de fruits, roasted pistachio, hazelnut) and 3 truffle types (original, vanilla and caramel), Debailleul delivers boxes anywhere in the city and also does bulk corporate orders to sweeten the deal. They’re yum and pretty as a picture, but at Rs 900 for nine pieces, these sweethearts don’t come cheap.

People in Glace Houses

To see what the actual store would sell, we couldn’t resist taking a peek at the website where we walked through a Jardin des Glaces (Garden of Ice cream) and sat under an Arbre de Pralines (tree of pralines). Besides chocolate, sorbet and artisan ice cream, they’ll also sell French pastries, gateau, tarts, croissants, brioche and sandwiches. If you can’t decide what to pick, Karen D’souza, F&B manager from Debailleul recommends her 5 favourite things: Pain au chocolat or chocolate croissant; coffee macaroons; Mikado ice cream cake; raspberry sorbet and Galloway cheesecake.

Getting there: Belgian chocolates home delivered from Debailleul, call Trupti on 9821983583, Rs 900 for an assorted box of nine bonbons.
