It seems like you’re always staring at a wall at home, at work, even on Facebook. And what do you see? The same colours, cubists or comments. But now, thanks to rent-N-art (www.bananacreatives.com/rentNart), an online painting and sculpture rental portal, you can refresh your wall every three months. Landlord of the fly!

Playing to the Gallery

It makes an interesting first impressionist, art-N-rent, with an online gallery that displays a collection of over 200 acrylics, oil and water colours on paper and canvas, as well as a handful of sculptures. Launched just twenty days ago by graphic artist Jayesh Soni, this portal was started with an aim to “promote original art”.

All you have to do is log on, pick a piece that appeals to you and rent it out for three months (or more) at prices that start at Rs 199 per month. For a higher quote of Rs 5,999 a month you can even choose from the oeuvre of established artists like Shailesh Shinde, who has shown several times at Jehangir Art Gallery, and sculptor Umesh Dhote whose marble and fibre glass Shirshasana is a personal favourite of Soni’s. But we suggest you don’t brush off all the no names just yet; in a pile of not-so-nice we found a pretty water colour Fountain, Card Player and Dressing Room. If you think you have better strokes, please call Soni and put up your works for rent.

For the Paint Hearted

Once you’ve decided on your wall post, handlers will come over within 72 hours (depending on your location) with your painting and mount it for free. You’ll have to cough up rental charges for three months in advance, plus Rs 2,000 refundable deposit. For a minimal cost, they can also send over an expert to consult on your space and pick a painting for you.

bpb hearts this new art service, but we’re going to wait for their roster to grow before we lease. And while we wait, we’ll also hope that art-N-rent adds more celebrated artists to the list. Until then, we’ll be content looking up at our partially magenta ceiling, from which hangs an untitled bird and Bag installation. Surreal!
