bpb Review: Citybliss

We always knew you would go places. And now that Citybliss is in town, you can get a massage en route. New in Mumbai, this teal blue van is a mobile spa that picks you up at your doorstep, and offers a host of fuss-free wellness treatments while transporting you to work, the airport, bachelor party or wherever else you knead to be.

Vanity Fare

Vans are shady. It’s all that concealed space in the back that makes you wonder what schemes are being hatched in there. So naturally, our first reaction to Citybliss was laced with scepticism. But there are couple of things that finally put us at ease: a bpb reader who’d tried and tested it, a legit website with interior shots of the van, the fact that both therapists were female and a reassuring voice at the end of the phone line that explained all our options. Treatments on board include facials, foot rubs, head massages, manicures and pedicures for thirty minute and one-hour slots, while commuting anywhere in Mumbai. And all this at super reasonable rates!

The downside: Citybliss currently has just one van (they are yet to brand it) so your satisfaction depends entirely on their availability. And remember, use this service only if you really have to get somewhere. Driving around the city just so you can get a massage isn’t great for the environment. The Scouters for instance, got an afternoon foot massage while parked outside the office.

Contact List

The inside of the vehicle you’ll be relieved to know, is a non-sketchy, soothing beige space with two recliners, a pair of female therapists, flat screen TV, Buddha bar music and even a shower! While we sunk into our chair and stretched out our legs, we wondered if the therapists had ever been kicked in the face during a foot rub, considering Mumbai’s pot holed streets. We didn’t ask.

The treatment started with a mummification process that involved our feet being wrapped in hot towels fished out of a temperature controlled drawer. Next, our therapist Solan (ex Shen Reflexology masseuse) used Nature’s Co scented oils to sweet-talk the pain right out of our feet. All this while we watched the road outside transmitted on the TV screen – crazy BEST buses careening around the bend, missing angry pedestrians by a hair’s breath. Why all the road rage, we wondered, lost in a happy haze of jasmine oil. If this is not your idea of viewing pleasure, you can hook up your laptop to one of their plug points or just stare at the ceiling.

Van Go

At Rs 670 for a thirty minute foot rub, this is way cheaper than your neighbourhood foot spa and just as nice. By increasing the size of their fleet, a Citybliss van could become to grownups what the ice cream truck is to kids: happiness on wheels.

Getting there: Citybliss, call 9167999666 or visit http://citybliss.com to schedule pick up and drop off locations, Rs 670 for a 30 minute foot massage.
