Attention all Bose DKs. Ahead of Delhi Belly’s release, Bollywood actor Imran Khan lets bpb in on his favourite Mumbai food joints (and more). Tour packs in tons of yum, but thankfully no Delhi belly.
Gajalee: With branches stretching from Juhu to the Palladium in Lower Parel, pretty much everyone in the city has eaten at Gajalee at least once… but I'm a purist. I refuse to go anywhere except the original (and far superior) restaurant in Vile Parle East. My picks: Tandoori crab, bombil fry, prawn biryani, and (yes, I'm serious) dal khichdi. Go with backup, you can't finish all that food alone.
Kadamgiri Complex, Hanuman Road, Vile Parle (E), call 26166470.
Street Food at Santacruz (W): Just opposite the Ramakrishna Mission is a row of shops; a bhel-walla, a golawalla, and a Parsi Dairy Farm. I've always had a weakness for bhel, and this is my favorite place to get it. Start with paani puri, then sev puri, then bhel puri, move next door and have a kaala khatta gola, and finish off with malai kulfi from the Parsi Dairy farm at the end of the row. Runner-up: Ram-Shyam bhel-wala, corner of North Avenue and St. Andrews Road, Santacruz. Two blocks west of Yoko's Sizzlers. That reminds me...
Corner of Linking Road and South Avenue, Santacruz (W).
Yoko's Sizzlers: A childhood favorite of mine, and still unparalleled by the dozens of imitators. Skip the appetisers and go straight for a steak satellite. It'll be more than enough. Do not wear white, you'll get sizzler splattered all over. Also, your hair will smell like sizzler for the remainder of the day. Some guys find that a turn-on…
10/11 West View, SV Road, Santacruz (W), call 26395852.
Paani Puri Clothing: A t-shirt company started by a friend of mine who is absolutely NUTS about paani puri. Some really cool and unique designs, and a very 'odd' backstory to how the idea for his company came about. He says he was watching a movie late one night and started really, really craving paani puri. Why? I wonder.

H2O: While we're on the subject of clothing, check out H2O. Starting out as a tiny shop at ground level, with a larger basement area, they started buying out the basements of all the neighboring shops. It has now turned into an underground maze of imported designer-wear. Original or fake? Nobody knows. But take it from me, everyone shops there and I do mean *everyone*.
Ground floor, Dheeraj Sneh Building, A wing, 30th Road, Bandra (W), call 22914540.
