Leaf through this: the pretty Banyan Tree Bakery and Cafe at Fort’s Gallery BMB is attempting to start a book club. Reading lists have not been planned yet and no literary figures seem to be on the panel, but there is a 15% discount card for anyone who signs up for the Banyan Tree Book Lover’s Club; all you need to registrater is donate one book. This card is valid all day at the cafe, where for now, you have to BYOB - bring your own books - and read solo. You can also browse the uber cool collection of art, architecture and photography tomes at the gallery’s bookstore. Once enough people sign up, formal meets and book discussions will begin. You have their word.
Banyan Tree Cafe may not have thought the book club through entirely, but this is still a great space – soothing white walls, art close by – to spend hours reading, without having to order a gazillion cups of coffee or worrying about being thrown out. Incidentally, a recent management change has also resulted in new menu additions including smoked chicken and orange salad, Indian salsa cheese pani puri, Indonesian satay.
Volume Enhancing: On bpb’s Reading List
River of Smoke – Amitav Ghosh
Horoscopes for the Dead – Billy Collins
Birds From My Window and the Antics They Get Up To – Ranjit Lal
Last Man in Tower – Aravind Adiga
Getting there: Banyan Tree Bakery and Cafe, Queen’s Mansion, GT Road, near Cathedral School, Fort, to register call Jaimishi on 9820238196, donate any one book to register.
