4 People You Should Meet
Monday, 31 January 2011 22:20

Tired of old what’s-his-name in the next cubicle? bpb finds you four interesting people to look up this week.

The Psychic Plumber

Our favourite graphic novelist Sarnath Banerjee and musician Ashu Pathak team up to take a leak beyond your imagination. At The Psychic Plumber and Other Lies, a month-long show that combines the brush with beats - every image has a specially composed music piece on an accompanying iPod – they’ll have you chatting up Girish, the abovementioned plumber with special powers, and also the Complan Boy, Kissan ketchup-eating man and a bunch of others who’ll take you back to India in the 1970s and 80s. See, hear.

Getting there: Blue Frog Studios, D/2 Mathuradas Mill Compound, NM Joshi Marg, Lower Parel, on through February, 11 am to midnight, free entry.

The Tart Who Wants One Last Fling

We’re beginning to get mildly annoyed with anyone who bakes or buys cupcakes. Dozen’t everyone? But when Indigo Deli declares a new cupcake rush, filling the treats with Cosmopolitan and Pina Colada, we have to egg them on. For a while at least. Kicking off with an-invite only event on February 2 (ask nicely on 43666666 and they might let you attend), Delhi-based pastry chef Dipika Sarin will conduct a sweet tasting, following which her cupcakes will be available at the Deli.

Getting there: Indigo Deli, The Palladium, Phoenix Mills, Lower Parel, call 24986262, from February 3 onwards, Rs 80 for a mini cupcake.

Author’s Father and his Daschund Named Bruschetta

Page novelist Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi today and you’ll land up at the Matthieu Foss photography gallery at Ballard Estate (did you know it used to be a Reader's Digest office?). Here, the author turns photographer, taking you through his arresting black and white (see image above) solo show to “The House Next Door”. Lonely, melancholic, beautiful - this is where Shanghvi’s father lived with his daschund after being diagnosed with cancer. Gloomy but gorgeous.

Getting there: Hansraj Damodar Building, Goa Street, Ballard Estate, visit www.matthieufossgallery.com, call 67477261, on until February 26, 11 am to 7 pm, shut on Sundays, free entry.
