Sep 7: The Hive has collaborated with Cineplay, a union of cinema and theatre founded by Subodh Maskara and co-founded by Nandita Das that screens theatre performances. Sep 7: In this month’s Prithvi’s Chai & Why, TIFR will create accessible discussions of interesting scientific issues. Conducted by Prof. Shobhona Sharma, a researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences, TIFR, Mumbai, the session  will be about the battle against malaria between man, mosquito and parasite and whether a malaria vaccine is in sight. Be The Chef at Café Zoe!

After a delicious Season 1, One Night Stand Chef (ONSC) is back for a new run at Café Zoe. This fun culinary series invites and auditions amateur chefs to work with Zoe’s Chef Viraf in the kitchen for one night only. You get to create your own Very Specials Menu and watch customers eat a meal cooked by you.

We knew your spoon would be over the moon, so we bookmarked this news for you. Wannabe chefs, no matter what your day job is, you can apply for ONSC Season 2 now. You must be 18 years of age; must not currently work in a professional kitchen. You have to submit a quick presentation about you and why you want to participate, backed by a Café Zoe-style 5 dish menu that comprises two appetisers, two mains and two courses (choice of starter/main/dessert).

SOI Concert Season Starts This Week

They’re Bach!

Boys and girls,  take note as the Symphony of India (SOI) orchestra concert season begins.  Starting on September 2 and going all the way up until the 25th,  the season at the NCPA will feature a lineup of stalwarts like music conductor Duncan Ward, pianist Cédric Tiberghien and violinist Alina Ibragimova, who will  perform classics by Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert.

Tickets are already on sale, so go ahead and book now. Cello, operator?

NH7Weekender #LineUp2014

What: NH7Weekender #LineUp2014, tickets available on www.insider.in, start at Rs 2000-Rs 4000.

Why: And the Moveable Fe(a)st is back! This year’s treats across Mumbai, Deli, Bangalore and Kolkata NH7 Weekender include super artists like English indie rock band The Vaccines, Bollywood composer Amit Trivedi, heavy metal band Fear Factory and comedy collective All India Bakchod, among others. See full line up for the annual music fest here. Mumbai folk, the good news is that the Pune line up is awesome, so no need to travel beyond.

Catch Indie I-Day Films!

What: Catch a showcase of short films made in the first two decades after Independence, presented by Godrej India Culture Lab and NGMA Mumbai. At National Gallery of Modern Art, 2 Floor Auditorium, Sir Cowasji Jahangir Public Hall, M G Road, Fort, free entry, 5.30 pm onwards, RSVP here: www.indiaculturelab.org

Why: Be kind and rewind to when the country was twenty years old and watch Indian indie films made in the late 60s at Indie-pendence Day 2, organised by the Godrej Culture Lab and NGMA. Gems like Hamara Rashtragan, a karaoke like film to teach children the correct way to sing the National Anthem; Gift For The Nation, a short film that advises Indians to sacrifice their gold and jewellery in the wake of the Indo - China war; I am Twenty, where the film maker travels across the country and interviews its youth, born in 1947 and others. The screenings will be followed by a discussion with Suresh Menon and Premraj Rajagopalan from Films Division and Avijit Mukul Kishore co-curator at The FD Zone.
