This weekend, wear your panties over your pants to get a piece of the action. The creative crew behind The Wall Project have taken kooky up a notch, inviting Mumbaikars to dress up as superheroes and ride around the city on bicycles. Holy hallucinations, Batman? No, this one’s for real!

We Can Be Heroes… For Just One Day

In its third avatar, this public graffiti project involves a lot more than painting the Tulsi Pipe Road boundary. Our favourite of the events lined up is the above mentioned The Super Hero Squad.

Here’s how it will play out:  Dress up as your favourite action hero, get on your bicycle (you can rent one from Hopkins’ Bicycles) and meet the Squad outside Mahim station on Sunday, May 30 at 5.30 pm. After a strong cup of cutting, you can ride with the crazy capers to Mahalaxmi, stopping to join in other Wall Project events – community board games, street jam sessions and gulli cricket.

Crazy Heads

For organiser Parag Gandhi, the idea of combining cycles and superheroes is about revisiting childhood. “Think of the city as your building compound. Come out to play, cycle and run around in funny costumes, just like you did as a kid” he says. The ride will culminate in a fake tea party at the chess tables opposite Carter Road’s Cafe Coffee Day, which will also be crashed by painters and musicians.

As bizarre as The Super Hero Squad sounds, it’s going to be a well attended event if the Facebook page is anything to go by. Plus, the project is BMC approved, so chances of getting busted are slim.

The Flying Brown Paper Bag

Even if you don’t end up participating, look out for the gaggle of superheros patrolling the streets. And if you see a brown cape with serrated edges fluttering in the wind, wave, because you’ll know who it is.
