No, we haven’t changed our medication, but we’re feeling kinda high and dreamy and a little bit like the way we did when we were 16. How come? Remember Rapture (see opening bar above), that wildly popular 2001 club song that kept a generation of dancers at Fire N Ice until 6 am? Well the woman who sung it, Pakistani-American singer Nadia Ali, is performing it plus more recent dance hits like Love Story and Fantasy at a Juhu club tonight. If the prospect of being thrown back into a more sexy, carefree past isn’t incentive enough to make you go, you should know that she’s quite hot. We’re just saying.
bpb’s quick chat with Nadia
bpb: What are the three things you never go on tour without?
Nadia Ali: Has to be more than three – my iPod, passport, wallet and phone!
bpb: Do you have a Mumbai agenda? Is there anything you want to eat/see/shop/do here?
Nadia Ali: I’ve only been to India once for the Sunburn Music Festival. My perception is that Indians have a great energy and appreciation for my genre of music. I am quite excited to see the audience reactions at Trilogy. It is a very tight schedule as I have to leave Mumbai the next day. So I guess the best I can do is eat some delicious Indian food, do some shopping if I get the time. First time in Bombay! So much to do, so little time. Sigh!
bpb: You’ve worked with super artists like Armin Van Buuren. Is there any Indian musician you would like to collaborate with?
Nadia Ali: I would love to work with AR Rahman as I have been a fan of his work for ages.
bpb: So what are you working on next?
Nadia Ali: Working on my next artist album. I love dance music, but I have a knack for loving acoustic, organic music. I definitely have a plan to make an acoustic album at some point and I love world music, especially because I am ethnic myself.
bpb: Any last words for Mumbai?
Nadia Ali: Let go of your inhibitions and dance away...See you tonight!
Getting there: Trilogy, Sea Princess Hotel, Juhu, call 26469689, starts at 10 pm, entry tentatively priced at Rs 1,500 per person but call ahead to check.
