Cutting: Smash
Records!

Eight Indians, a broking firm, Picasso, and Tiger's pick-up line grab headlines this week.

Our weekly pick-tionary of happenings from Mumbai and beyond.

407 crores: That’s how much Edelweiss Broking Ltd pays for a new 14-floor office building in Kalina, making it the largest commercial transaction in the suburbs this year. Top storey!

Accolades: Winners of the 14th annual Webby Awards (honouring excellence on the internet) are out. Isabella Rosselini’s hilarious web short-film series, Green Porno, gets a nod, as do Twitter, Nytimes.com and Brad Pitt. Look for us on the list next year!

Failed New York bombing suspect admits to Pakistani links. Read about how his arrest was made in 53 hours. Also, after much Head(ley) butting, the Home Ministry says that India may get access to the Pakistani-American terror suspect this month.

Flights of Antsy: A Delhi-Kolkata-Dhaka flight makes priority landing in Kolkata after a “manly” woman in a Burkha arouses suspicion. The matter is now under investigation.

Guilty! Ajmal Qasab (finally) indicted for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. ‘Patriotic’ Mumbai bookies refuse to take bets on the verdict, which could have gone up to Rs 1000 crores.

Joker: Golfer Tiger has reportedly been successfully using the same joke as a pick-up line since 1997. Read it here and you’ll never be in the Woods about women again.

Local train motormen have resumed work after the government threatened them with a draconian law that could lead to immediate arrests. We’re glad things are back on track!

Picasso painting from 1932 was sold for a record 106.5 million dollars! We suppose the Blue Period is over.

Sachin Speaks: The Master Blaster opens a Twitter account, scoring almost 85,000 users in under 24 hours. Mid-day launches campaign to make him the most followed celeb. Silly point!

Under the influence:  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Chetan Bhagat, Aishwarya Rai, Sachin Tendulkar and Amartya Sen make it to Time Magazine’s annual list of most influential people. Speaking of Indians on the international map, leadership guru and IIT alumnus Nitin Nohria becomes dean of Harvard B-School.

Hopefully this luck will continue!
