Let go of old cabbage as Season 2 of the Organic Farmers' Market makes its debut on Oct 3.

This Little Piggy

…. went to the market, and we suggest that you go too, now that the Organic Farmers’ Market is back in Bandra every Sunday, starting October 3. It’s been a long and lonesome monsoon, both for shoppers and farmers who stock here, many of whom have been keeping in touch over the phone during their long separation, reminiscing about the lovely tomatoes they bonded over in March, anticipating their reunion over a particularly riotous head of red cabbage.

The Three Stages

Like the last version, the season 2 of the Market will have three primary kinds of vendors: farmers from around Maharashtra selling over 25 varieties of seasonal fruits and vegetables like chikoo, broccoli, red cabbage, baby corn and cherry tomatoes; stalls featuring organic cotton and bamboo fabrics by Fusion, as well as usual suspects like Om Ved and Naturally Yours; and an organic café where you can fuel up on everything from organic ice golas and  coffee to macrobiotic fare by Sonali Sabharwal.

Crop Rotation

New attractions this year include pesticide-free spring water from Mulshi Springs; natural cosmetics by Waterline; organic mint lemonade; and a line of coffee, ayurvedic medicines and baby food by Roots2Shoots Organics, which sources products from Women of Woods, a Kerala-based group that produces and harvests organic eats.

 At Farm’s Length

If kids are part of your load, you can just have them hang out with Jalebi Ink, who’ll be organising treasure hunts, creative writing competitions, art classes and other welcome distractions. The best development in our opinion is that now the market doesn’t open until 11 am, so we get to sleep in on Sunday. Plus, South Bombay peeps don’t have to trek all the way over to Bandra, because the market is travelling to Flamboyante restaurant at the World Trade Center in Cuffe Parade on October 10. Sobo sabzi!

You no longer have any excuses, so make sure you swing by. No one likes the piggy who stayed home.
