Bollywood Awards: Bird Mentality
Sunday, 30 January 2011 17:45

When jury duty involves estimating the damages of heart break caused by Munni; when the value of carpet area is calculated by the number of stars that walk over it; and when the woman that every actor is after is two feet tall and made of bronze – that’s when you know that it’s award season here in Bollywood.

Sure there’s the politics, the rigging, the live performance-award barter and the jury bribes, but which award show doesn’t have that? The Tweeple Film Awards or Twi-Fi Awards that debuted in January this year. This is a no-nonsense online movement (support them on Facebook and Twitter) that eyes popular award shows with suspicion, and hopes to honour cinematic excellence in Bollywood minus the favouritism.

Of the Tweeple, For the Tweeple, By the Tweeple

So why should you trust the integrity of Tweeple? Because its jury consists of 30 movie buffs including our favourite film blogger Sahil Rizwan, 30 film critics including Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra (all chosen through a voting process on Twitter) and YOU. Any twoughts?

Why Anticipate When You Can Participate?

And, here’s the best part. Apart from the regular award titles - nominations will be out soon - Twi-Fi is looking to announce new categories that include everything from best dialogues to the coolest film poster. Click here to add to the suggestion list.

So while the Bird and its herd mull over Bollywood’s best, bpb’s impatient jury goes ahead and announces its own quick list of awards. And if you know us by now, you’ll know that we have loads of pride, but no prejudices.

And the award goes to...

Best Actor: Salman Khan (Dabangg)
Best Actress: Vidya Balan (Ishqiya)
Best Film: Udaan
Best Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Guzaarish)
Best Music: Break Ke Baad (Vishal-Shekhar)
