It’ll take a tornado of tape and crates, wood and bubble wrap, trucks and airplanes to lift up all 15,000 square feet of Mumbai’s favorite mill and drop it off at One Style Mile, Mehrauli, where fashion and home store Le Mill will be setting up a five day pop-up shop next week. Of course, ruby slippers will be part of the stock.
The Wizard of Gauze
The pop-up shop will feature design elements from the original store (think industrial interiors lined with steel racks, crates and paper crows) and the Cowardly lion’s share of Le Mill Mumbai’s stock.
This includes furniture, cutlery, and most importantly, lots of clothes, accessories and jewelry by hard-to-find international designers like Philip Lim, Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang and Mawi. Unfortunately, they won’t be bringing their flower shop or delish café, but you can always stop over at Trishna next door for a taste of Bombay.
We look forward to shopping for paint-splattered silk shifts and chiffon shirts the colour of summer skies by Philip Lim, Alexander Wang’s bottom-spiked handbags and leather pants from The Row, fashion label of the Olsen twins. Also check out Isabel Marant, sartorial darling of the international indie set, and fiercely lush jewelry by Mavi.
Additionally, there will be Acne, sharply tailored clothes for men; Alice in Wonderland tin boxes and fun art books; ikat rugs, light fixtures, and some heavy furniture.
Prices will remain the same as they are in Mumbai, which may seem a little steep, but are comparable internationally.
Despite the convulated logistics and elaborate set up, Le Mill’s pop-up store will be in Delhi for only five days, after which they’ll return to Mumbai (they’ll continue to take orders remotely and ship to the Capital). After all, like Dorothy said, there’s no place like home.
Getting there: The Foyer, One Style Mile, Mehrauli, open to the public from May 4 to May 8, Rs 5,500 for an En Inde necklace.
